Bring on the booze

There's a really interesting "open bar" debate happening on one of the wedding forums I frequent, and it has given me a lot to think about.

Jeff and I would like to have an open bar; however, we're not sure we can afford it. And since we're paying for everything ourselves, we don't exactly have a "plan B" should the bar tab exceed our budget...

Common sense says we should likely consider our alternatives:

  • 2-3 drink tickets per guest
  • a toonie or loonie bar
  • a donation bar (aka, pay what you like)
  • a cocktail hour, followed by a cash bar
  • complimentary wine punch (or alternative), plus a cash bar
  • a cash bar
I hadn't realized there were so many alternatives until reading the debate. However, an open bar is still our first preference -- you never know, maybe we'll win the lottery ;-)

Love calculator

Jennifer Eleanor Johnson + Philip Jeffrey Richardson = 93%

Dr. Love thinks that a relationship between Jennifer Eleanor Johnson and Philip Jeffrey Richardson has a very good chance of being successful, but this doesn't mean that you don't have to work on the relationship. Remember that every relationship needs spending time together, talking with each other etc.

Et cetera eh? Hmm...

Lol -- thanks for the entertainment Jodi!

Stag and doe... or "buck and deer!"

Ever notice how it's called a "stag and doe" or a "buck and doe," but the girl is always a doe? Well, I say we call it a "buck and deer" baby; it sounds way more fun!

As you might have guessed, stag and doe plans have begun. Both Noel (best man) and Alyssa (maid of honour) have started mentioning ideas, so I sent an email to the wedding party today to get the ball rolling.

I'm excited. This is gonna be one BIG ASS party. Sweet, it's my (our) blog, so I can say "ass" and no one will care.

That, and today is exactly 8 months until W-Day and almost 8 months since we got engaged. Talk about tempus fugit -- it's starting to feel so real!

Dress dilemma

I've got a problem. I want a new dress.

Oh, I have a dress, and it's a perfectly nice dress, but I haven't been able to shake this feeling that it's not quite right... it's not quite me.

Maybe it's because I never buy dresses -- I think it's safe to say I'm not the "dress" type -- so finding a dress that is my type is quite the task. And then there's the issue of this other dress that keeps popping up everywhere I turn... except no one carries a sample of it to try on. It's probably just as well; otherwise I'd be in danger of owning 2 dresses and that's really not in the budget!

D'oh, I probably should have known something was up back in July :P

Maybe by writing this down I can finally get this idea out of my head!

Getting sick

I'm fighting off a cold at the moment. At first I thought it was allergies (I always do), but no, it's a cold. Ugh.

What happens if I'm sick on the big day? That would suck!

Narrowing down the dress choices

Dress shopping on Thursday went well, but we didn't find anything that made us go "wow, that's the one." Although there were plenty that made us laugh, lol.

It seems our first picks are still in the lead, but the store we went to on Thursday didn't carry the same dresses. However, I finally found some pictures!

Keep in mind that "tangerine" is not our colour of choice, but it was the only picture available. Black or green seem to be the current favorites.

We're going to get together again next week, and maybe make a decision :)
