Wedding apathy

I've been in a wedding planning slump lately. I just haven't been interested in doing wedding stuff and yet I know there's a ton of things I should, nay need, to be doing.

Wedding apathy has set in.

This could be dangerous.

So, do you want to bulk up?

Funny story...

I was at the gym the other day and Marston, my personal trainer -- no, I'm not one of those types, but I did cave under excellent sales pressure and the knowledge that I would otherwise continue to neglect my gym membership -- asked me what my fitness goals were. Would I like to "shoot for one more rugby season and 'bulk up' a bit?" or would I rather focus on "tone."

Hmm... let's see, I have to fit into a wedding dress in less than 5 months -- can you imagine if I showed up at my fitting all "bulked up" and didn't fit into the dress anymore? Lol, the ladies at the store would shoot me!

So obviously I went with tone.

BTW, did I mention my butt is killing me? When we started off last night's workout with 40 lunges, I knew I was in trouble!

Remember when there were only 10 months left?

Well now there are only 5 months left :P I thought it might be time to revist the ticker... there it goes, ticking away, only 5 months left.

The guilt fee finally paid off

Jeff and I signed up at Family Fitness yesterday, and since I've been a member since 1999 *cough, cough... ahem* Jeff got a pretty sweet deal as a "family member add-on." Yep, "family member"... I believe this is one of the first official marriage-related perks we've experienced. It's kind of funny and cool at the same time.

And of course, finally the "guilt fee" -- my sadly neglected gym membership -- has paid off! Instead of paying $54 each per month, we're only paying $35 each since I joined way back in the dark ages.

Hey -- now that I have a gym partner, maybe I'll actually start going to the gym :P

What colour are your eyes?

Seriously, Corina gets me hooked on these things. Oddly enough, my eyes are gray; however, Jeff's are actually blue. Interesting...

Jen's eyes

Your Eyes Should Be Gray

Your eyes reflect: Intensity and drive
What's hidden behind your eyes: A sensitive soul

Jeff's eyes

Your Eyes Should Be Brown

Your eyes reflect: Depth and wisdom
What's hidden behind your eyes: A tender heart

A nasty little chore called "registering"

I've been thinking about this topic quite a bit lately, and realized I'd never written about our experience...

Back in May or June of 2005, my maid-of-honour, Alyssa, encouraged Jeff and I to register. She and my other bridesmaid, Lesley, were throwing us an engagement party in early July and wanted us to register for a few gifts "just in case." Neither Jeff nor I were terribly comfortable with the whole registry idea, but after chatting with a few co-workers, some friends, my mom, and my bridesmaids again we finally agreed.

Now, most of the other couples I'd talked to had said registering was a blast -- it was like "going on a shopping spree without having to spend a cent!" Not being a shopper to begin with, I wasn't entirely convinced, but I figured "hey, how bad could it be?" In one word: horrible!

Jeff and I made an appointment at the Bay, got a brief introduction from the registry lady, and were then handed a scan gun with which to "go wild" and register to our hearts content. Three hours later, a very miserable Jeff and I put down our gun and left the store with a whopping 4 items on our list.

I called my mom in a panick -- I mean, registering was supposed to be easy right? So why were we having such a hard time? Thankfully she agreed to come down and the next day my mom, Jeff, and I made a trip to Home Outfitters with much better results. Apparently 2 extremely pratical, minimalist people -- one of whom hates shopping and the other who just never buys anything -- make for terrible registrants. However, with my mom around to point us in the right direction and convince us that, "yes, you should register for these things" (and those things, and that thing over there) we managed to leave the store much happier and with many more items on our list. Unfortunately, everytime I've returned to the store I've managed to delete something off the list... but thankfully I've added a few things, too (thanks for talking me into the stand-mixer Tina!)

However there was one major item still missing from our list... everyday China, aka nice dishes if you live the regular, non-wedding world. My boss talked me into this one, but she had a good point -- my Ikea dishes are chipped to hell, and a good set of China really will last a lifetime. So after several failed attempts to find something decent at the Bay or Home Outfitters, I finally decided to make a trip to Household China & Gifts... And what do you know? I found a pattern I love -- China by Denby --and it's one of the few lines that has the wide-rimmed soup/pasta bowls I've been wishing for for years! (Yeah, I know I'm a geek... but we've already established that.)

Finally, a registry experience I could enjoy... and it only took 2 hours for the sales lady to convince me to "Stop worrying about the price dear, china is worth the investment. And if need be, you can collect a few pieces at a time. Besides, I can already tell you're going to be very happy with those bowls." ;-)

Bridal shows, DJs, and dress shopping

**Oh man... I never posted this. Well, here's a blast from the past, about 3 and a half months past or September 14th to be exact!**

Forget fun; time flies when you're busy! And I know Sonja is likely wondering, "Where the hell is that Bridal Show post she promised?" Well here goes.

Last Friday, Sonja, Alyssa, and I made our way to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for the Canadian Bridal Show. We were greeted by some of the scariest brides and vendors in history, but managed to enjoy ourselves none-the-less. I got a make-over from M.A.C. -- which was worthy of an El Convento Rico appearance -- and during our wait, Alyssa and I had the pleasure to meet the most interesting bride-to-be, and her equally interesting daughter, this side of Trailer Park Boys.

Meanwhile, Sonja *scored* us front row seats to the fashion show, which turned out to be quite the entertaining highlight of the evening. As Sonja commented, "I bet this is the most action he sees all year," referring to one of the rather exuberant tuxedo models, who I nick...

**Apparently that's where I stopped; not sure where I was going with this one :P**

Rewind to Christmas

So Jeff and I had a pretty sweet Christmas, and surprisingly a rather easy time juggling the multi-family schedule. I've heard horror stories from other couples about whirlwind holidays, fights over who gets more time with who, guilt-trips and anxiety attacks, etc. so I was quite relieved when our plans came together with no conflicts and were, relatively speaking, fairly relaxing. Hopefully future Christmases are as kind.

Oh... and I got some sweet gifts, including a vacuum from my mom (yay!) and a killer set of knives (no pun intended) from Jeff. Nothing like going 6 months without a vacuum (eww...), and finally, I have a good set of kitchen knives; I'm still excited!

Geez, it's 2006...

... that means we're getting married this year! Kind of hard to believe it's

A) been 10 months since we got engaged, and
B) only 5 and a half months until we get married.

June 17th baby, here we come!
