Knee surgery... meh

As some of you know, Jeff had ACL reconstruction surgery (aka, knee surgery) last Wednesday.

The surgery went fine, but when it neared time to leave the hospital (8 hours later) we discovered that Jeff's good leg wasn't working! Apparently his leg had been resting funny while he was "under" and somehow he had pinched a nerve putting most of his leg to sleep.

Four more hours later, we finally left the hospital. Only to return this week to find out we hadn't been given clear instructions on his post-op care and had unknowingly put the wrong brace on his knee... Stupid doctors! Three syringes, fluid drainage, x-rays, blood-clot scares, an ultrasound, and 3 and a half hours later one very unhappy Jeff and I left the hospital.

One week down, only 5 more crutch-dependent weeks to go...

Needless to say, not much wedding planning has been happening. And although this is technically a "wedding" blog, I figured I'd post this non-wedding update just to let you know what has been going on :)

Happy birthday Jeff!

It's Jeff's birthday today -- everyone wish him a happy day!

Happy birthday sweetie :)

P.S. It's Courtney's birthday today, too. Happy birthday Court!

Elopement rears its (ugly?) head

The word "elope" has come up again in recent wedding discussions.

Between trying to decide which DJ to hire, dropping off deposits and watching our savings account shrink, and listening to other brides' horror stories of melt-downs at the 2-month mark, I think it's safe to say we've quite honestly considered eloping.

Deep down I still want to throw a big party and celebrate our special day with family and friends, but sometimes it all seems so crazy and "just getting it over with" starts to sound like a very good idea...

The DJ hunt is going well

I've now found 2 DJs that are more suited to our budget. Yay!

One charges $300, but we'd also need to rent a PA system, and the other charges $400 inclusive.

I also have a call in to FlashPoint Productions -- thanks to whoever left the tip!

Bridal Show Season

I've been noticing a number of signs that "Bridal Show Season" is fast approaching.

  • 2 for 1 coupons at Home Outfitters;
  • notices posted by other brides on chat boards; and
  • "Vendors Wanted" announcements on wedding-related websites.
Never having been to a true Bridal Show, I'm curious to attend. I've heard that "T.O. shows are crazy!" and I have a feeling I'll be in way over my head, but to be honest I just want to go for the chance to win free stuff :P

Hey Mister DJ...

Odd, I thought up this title and actually started bopping to the tune of "Hey Mister DJ, put a record on..." Then I caught myself, and I'm in a public place. *cough, cough* *ahem*

But back to DJs... Geez, they're expensive! If anyone knows of a good, reasonably-priced DJ in the KW or Cambridge area, let me know. I found a great one, but he's $1,100 + GST for the night. WHEW! Of course, he'll give me a deal for $895 + GST, but uh... yeah, still a tad too pricey, lol.

Tell you what, I'll just bop to the tunes in my head and y'all can join me. Now wouldn't that be entertaining?

My parallel life

I had a moment of weirdness today as I checked our Forum for New Students to see if anyone had responded to my call for blogger applications.

That's right, at work I'm in the process of recruiting students to blog about their first-year university experience; while at play, I blog for the silent millions (okay 10s) of you who read this very site. And in addition to "shaming" Jeff into posting his very first blog -- sweetie, you're super cute -- I've also inspired (lol) my friend Kirk to start his very own blog.

Strange how closely the two relate. And then's there the fact that my favorite wedding planning tool is a forum for KW brides; while at work, I'm the one in charge of a forum for new students.

Parallel? I think so.

More reading material

I found an article on Indiebride.com -- thanks for the tip Holly! -- about a book called What No One Tells the Bride.

It was an interview with the author, Marg Stark, and from what I read the book sounds quite interesting. I also flipped through the first few pages online and it's funny how accurate it sounds!

A trip to Chapters may be in order.

Slacking off

There seems to be a common trend among brides-to-be of lulls and highs experienced during the planning process.

One week you're a planning queen, checking item after item off your massive list of to-do's, and the next you're wishing that DJ would call and book himself 'cause you just can't be bothered right now.

I'm currently experiencing one of those lulls.

Unfortunately time does keep ticking, and in the bridal business things book EARLY. Can you believe the make-up artist I contacted 2 weeks ago is already booked for June 17, 2006?? Well then, MAC counter it is.

However, this weekend Jeff and I have an appointment to meet with Judi at the Walper Terrace, so hopefully that will kick-start my butt back into gear. Maybe just enough for me to get over my odd dread of calling DJs...
