Okay, you're forgiven

Nope, not Jeff as you might have assumed... rather the aforementioned etiquette-nazi who said:

Thou shalt not wear black to a wedding

I was back on her site today, hunting for something I mistakenly thought I'd read on there, and instead found this gem. Funny stuff.

Etiquette-schmetiquette

If you want to drive yourself crazy sometime, try Googling "wedding etiquette" and attempt make sense of all the conflicting advice you get.

I forget how I found this particular article, but c'mon -- no one is allowed to wear black?!

So close...

Due to scheduling conflicts, Alyssa, Lesley and I have been having a heck of time getting together to pick a bridesmaid dress. Seriously, we've been at this since August.

But... we're getting close. Les and I went out on Saturday, to review our top choices and while we were at it, we took some pictures! Now Alyssa just has to pick which ones she likes, try them on, and hopefully she and Les can come to some sort of mutual decision!

Here are some pictures... to the left, is Lesley modelling Raylia's "Georgie" in black satin.

Below and left, is a satin and chiffon Alfred Angelo dress; and on the right, a satin Dessy dress with a black bow. Note -- these were the only colours available in the store, and not necessarily the colours we'd choose!

And here's Les in an Alfred Sung Separates black nu georgette combo with either a short or long skirt.

We have about 3 weeks left before we start to enter the "rush fees" time zone, so hopefully things come together soon :D

My secret addiction

I've been keeping it quiet, but I know it's true: I'm addicted to paper.

How did this happen?!

Jeff, being the good-natured kind of guy he is, has been great. Every time I've come home late because I've accidentally spent an hour wandering the paper aisle in Michael's, he has understood. And everytime I've come up with yet another invitation idea, he has offered helpful suggestions and feedback despite the fact that I've gone and changed my mind again. He has even driven to Hamilton, on a whim, to check out a new paper store with me; travelled to Paris to borrow a paper cutting mat from his mom; and pulled over at a random convenience store, so I could look up the locations of other paper stores that might carry a particular item I was after.

Yes, he's amazing. And when I pull out my supplies and cluttter the living room night after night with bits of brightly coloured paper, he just laughs and tells me I'm cute and that he loves me. And when I asked what was his favourite part of the latest invitation idea I'd come up with, he said

"The part where it says we're getting married."

Aww...

I know that most people won't even notice the pretty paper, or the cool font, or the way the text is aligned just so, but I don't care; I'm having fun, and in the end I get to marry the sweetest guy on earth :D

Got eggs?

I am the proud new owner of a Cuisinart Egg Cooker and 6 joyously-coloured, egg-shaped plates, matching egg cups, and itty-bitty egg spoons.

Hell yeah. Who's up for soft-boiled eggs?

I guess I'd better explain.

Yesterday afternoon, I attended a get-together / re-gifting party with a bunch of other brides and brides-to-be -- most of whom I'd never met before. You see, we're all quasi-regulars on a local web forum and decided it would be nice to actually meet some of the other girls we'd been chatting with over the past several months. To make things a little more interesting, I suggested we also bring a re-gift -- something we'd received as a present, but either never used, never wanted, or have no more use for -- and having a re-gifting party.

Now, I'm a knob, and was one of the only girls that forgot to bring a re-gift -- even though it was my idea in the first place! But thankfully someone brought an extra gift, so I got to participate.

To "re-gift" the gifts, we all drew numbers -- 1 through 9 -- and picked a gift in turn, but with the added twist that you could either pick a new un-opened gift, or "steal" a previously opened gift. I was #4 and picked a large, newspaper-wrapped circular item from the table. It turned out to be a card-box, in exactly the right wedding colours of girl #5 who promptly stole my gift. No problem, I didn't really need a card box anyway.

So I picked a new gift from the table -- a portable lunch cooler stuffed with 2 plush-doll kids, lol. I sat with my new gift for several turns while other girls chose new gifts from the table. Then the last girl was up, and there was only one gift left on the table -- the comical egg-cooker set, which no one seemed to want -- so she decided to steal the gift from girl #1 beside me... which started a series of 4 or 5 steals until finally the last girl stole my lunch bag and dolls. So, I looked around the table, and thought about stealing another gift. Then I looked up at the egg cooker set that no one seemed to want... and voila, I am now the proud new owner of a Cuisinart Egg Cooker and 6 pastel-coloured, 3-piece egg serving sets.

Now I just need to buy some eggs.
