Shopping for bridesmaid dresses

Alyssa, Lesley and I are meeting in Cambridge this Thursday to look for bridesmaid dresses. Lesley and I have already been once, but Alyssa wasn't able to make it so this will be the first time all of us have gone together.

I'm not picky about the colour or style, I just want them to find something that they're both happy with and that goes well with my dress and the style of the event. I figure they'll likley end up in something black, but we'll see!

Up to my eyeballs in paper

So I did it; I bought paper to play with.

Jeff and I now have a mess of black, white, off-white, fuschia, green, bubblegum, forest, and soft mint paper -- in varying combinations of vellum, linen, and cardstock -- sitting on our dining room table.

I'm partial to a black, white, and pink mix, but can't quite decide. Jeff likes the green tones and isn't sure about the pink. I wish there was a way to get both green and pink in there, but it just doesn't work...

Here's a digital adaptation of what's sitting, in paper, on our table right now.

Actually, if you just clean up the lines of the little pink leaf, it's pretty accurate. And considering that I drew that leaf free-hand -- on paper it's cut out with a punch -- I'd say it's not bad... not bad at all!

Unfortunately, we can't find a good green paper or we could just replace the pink with green and have 2 versions of the invitation -- pink for me and green for Jeff!

I keep thinking that we'd look pretty silly to the general observer -- two adults, sitting at a dining room table, re-arranging little squares of coloured paper over and over again, looking confused about what to do...

Yep, totally ridiculous!

I've been dreaming about invitations

And not in a bad way... although, really, is there a good way to dream about invitations? Here's the story...

Jeff and I went on an impromptu wedding-related outing on Saturday afternoon -- we looked at some wedding bands, stopped by the party store, and tried on some goofy hats. Then I remembered that I'd wanted to check out Scribe's Nook in Waterloo for ideas on making our own wedding invitations.

OMG -- the variety of papers and colours and ideas was mind boggling. Jeff was bored out of his tree, but I was absolutely enthralled. What a weird thing to be totally excited about; if I'd had any cash on me, I swear I would have bought a few sheets of paper and gone straight home to play around.

First flowers, now invites. Who knew I'd be so interested in these things? Oh, and Martha Stewart Weddings is a suprisingly good magazine... I never thought I'd hear myself say that.

We finally hired a DJ

After much ado and a lot of nothing, we've finally hired a DJ!

Jeff and I met with Jasmyn from Olympic Sound last night (she was actually one of the first DJs I called) and we liked what we heard, so we've decided to hire her. Plus, she comes highly recommended and the price was right ;-)

So... we've got an officiant, a reception location, and a DJ for sure. At the very least we can get married, go somewhere afterwards, and dance, lol.

P.S. Sonja - I promise I'll write about our Bridal Show adventures soon!

It begins...

I've started to catch myself doing something I promised I wouldn't: accessorize.

That's not the right word, but it's the closest I can come to describing the feeling. Basically, it's an urge to add extraneous items, frills you could say, to the wedding.

For example, "save-the-date" cards. I had no intention of sending save-the-date cards until I saw a discussion on sending save-the-date magnets.

"Cool!" I thought. "We could even design and print them ourselves. We just need to find someone with an ink jet printer..."

Oddly, Jeff nodded in agreement and started adding to the idea, but thankfully kiboshed my suggestion to head directly to the nearest Staples to pick up supplies.

Next, while in the shower, thoughts of "program cards" for the ceremony started swirling in my head. Once I would have thought, "What are program cards? Meh... I don't need those." Then somewhere between lather, rinse, repeat the frill-pusher in my head started whispering, "but you do need program cards... How else will everyone know the name of the Pastor, or what reading is being read?" So I paused a moment to consider...

And that's when it hit me, "Oh God! It's begun!" All those little things we don't need, haven't budgeted for, and really won't miss if they're gone are starting to sound like great ideas! The dreaded urge to accessorize has begun.
